Meet your Psychologist, Patty

Patty Marriner
Registered Psychologist & Director
"The Science of Feeling Safe" underpins the way I work with children, parents, and adults.
Welcome! I'm Patty, founder and owner/operator of Mind Pivot Psychology and Wellbeing Services.
If you're here, you probably want to know a little bit more about me. I started my career in the helping profession as a Therapy Assistant working with autistic children and families while studying to become a Psychologist. I loved this work, however, when the opportunity arose to work in Child Safety I jumped at the chance. I was, and still am, passionate about helping children, adults, and families to grow, thrive and make positive changes in their lives and viewed my role as an opportunity to help those that were facing the biggest challenges.

Therapy Approach
Mind Pivot Psychology and Wellbeing Services combines my unique blend of specialist mental health knowledge into my work supporting children, families, and adults.
My framework is informed by Polyvagal Theory, Attachment Theory, and Mindfulness. I am trained in a variety of approaches including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Solution Focused Therapy. My training allows me to select the most appropriate intervention for my clients and their individual concerns.

In 2020, I relocated with my family from the NT to the Sunshine Coast, QLD. Since making the move, I have worked with Headspace, Catholic Education and in private practice supporting adults and children.
A pivotal time for me in my career has been expanding my knowledge of trauma informed therapy and Self-Regulation through the work of Dr Bessel Van der Kolk and Dr Stuart Shanker. This provided a pathway to learning about Polyvagal Theory, and training in The Safe and Sound Protocol (The SSP). Polyvagal theory is "The Science of Feeling Safe", and it underpins the way I work with children, parents, and adults. I am a proud certified provider of The SSP and deliver it to individuals across Australia, helping them to operate more from a state of being present and connected, rather than in fight/flight/freeze modes.
